Thank you for a great day and for teaching me a lot more about scrambling and rope safety. Brilliant guide and will definitely be back for more trips out 🙌
Robin,
Thanks again for a great day out yesterday; the perfect mix of pushing myself and learning useful information along the way….
Cheers,
Tim.
2024 started well for me on my final expedition of the old year and first of the new in Kenya. Over the holiday period I led 2 very successful trips for AP with team members reaching the summits of the 4 highest points of the mountain, Batian, Nelion, Point Lenana and Point John. Unfortunately I picked up a bug on the journey home and was slightly off form for the first few weeks of the New Year, which combined with the very wet weather slightly reduced my appetite for mountain biking back home. I had recovered by the time Rebekah and I headed out to Chamonix for a couple of weeks social skiing with old friends and clients, and a pretty good time was had all round. And now, in early April, I am making final preparations for my first big trip of the year to Lhotse in the Khumbu region of Nepal. It is very exciting to be returning to Nepal, meeting up with friends and colleagues and leading a small group to make an attempt on an 8000er. After that I will be returning to the Pamirs, Tien Shan and Norway, and available for guiding in the Lake District between trips. Watch this space!
Hi Robin, just a quick note to say thanks again for a terrific couple of days in the Lakes in the Spring, and to share that we had brilliant six days in Austria…..the learning never stops…

Hi Robin, came back off Denali this week. Weather very sketchy this year. 6 major storm systems and summit was -58 to -66 C for our window. Quite a way colder than K2 and Everest at the time. Team got up to high camp but weather meant we stopped short of summmit. Challenging conditions- multiple rescues by rangers of teams with HACE/ frost bite who fancied their chances. Luckily we descended in one go and got the last flight off the glacier. Still no flights operating nearly a week later.
Just to say a huge thanks for the training last month. Out of 7 team members, I was one of only two who didn’t fall into a crevasse. Each resolved through a bit of muscle power verses group system. No injuries. My sled fell down cracks at various points on the way. Our training gave me the confidence to handle it without a problem. I practiced what you taught me and nailed the fixed lines and running belay….
Many memorable moments: helped rescue Norwegian team with HAPE, navigating crevassed slope in whitehout, big slab avalanche just near us. Incredible….
Thanks again, and hope to climb with you in future (keen to get into a bit of ice climbing next).

Currently I am focussing on UK based activities and expeditions outside of Europe once again. This is because of the considerable obstacles to working in Europe since Brexit, which have unfortunately impacted my ability to work as a guide in the Alps. 2022 found me guiding in Central Asia for Adventure Peaks, and also on the Antarctic Peninsula, both being new and exciting destinations for me. In 2023 we have already been busy climbing, alpine / expedition / crevasse rescue training, scrambling, and mountain walking including the National and Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge events, and mountain biking in our spare time! I have expeditions scheduled to Morocco (Mount Toubkal), Kyrgyzstan (Peak Lenin), Georgia (Mount Kazbek), Nepal (Himlung Himal) and Mount Kenya all with Adventure Peaks. Exciting times!
You can read more about our worldwide trips on our Expeditions Page.
We’d love to help you plan and prepare for your own trips by sharing our wealth of expedition experience and knowledge with you on one of our Alpine Preparation or Expedition Training courses closer to home, or simply by climbing, scrambling or walking with you as you gain additional experience and skills.
Please get in touch to discuss your plans.
Robin,
Thanks again for a great training on Saturday! Really appreciate your input and patience with us as a mixed ability group, but you were fantastic! All the best
Hello Robin,
I wanted to thank you for a fabulous day in Borrowdale last week.
Peter and I had a great time. It’s been a while since I have done any rock climbing and the route you selected was just perfect. I think if it had been any harder, I might have been in trouble. But it was just the right grade, easy enough to give me confidence but hard enough to make me think and sufficient exposure to make the heart race.
And it was nice to catch up….
Best wishes and I hope we can do some more together next time we are in the Lakes.
Thought you may like to know that Al and I have been putting your training into use in North Wales. Grade 2 and 3 scrambles. Thanks again. Hope you’re well. Ben
