Last weekend Dave Pritt and I went out to Chamonix to test the new ski gear for our forthcoming South Pole trip; lightweight skis for touring in the Polar Regions, with special bindings so they can be worn with Baffin boots. We arrived on Friday to sunny weather and less snow than there had been in September. We spent Saturday testing the skis in a white out, descending into the Vallee Blanche from Helbronner. It’s all change now though, and it’s snowed hard for several days, with more on the way. It’s also been snowing here in the Lakes, with some very some wild weather. I went out yesterday for a final test of the polar skis before they were packed up for freighting to Punta Arenas!
